The Lord Will Fight For You

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” - Exodus 14:14

I have always loved this verse but recently when I read it, it had a whole new meaning to me.

With the Covid-19 pandemic and Black Lives Matter movement I am constantly feeling like I should be doing more, however it’s hard to really do anything when you’re hardly allowed to leave your house…

It’s hard to be fighting for people to come to know the Lord, hard to go to rallies to fight for my black friends, hard to take care of the widows and orphans, hard to love my friends well, hard to do all the things I think the Lord would want me to do if things were normal.

I felt the Lord was speaking that verse over me again and again this week but instead of it being, The Lord will fight for you, it was…

The Lord will fight for the orphans, you need only to be still.

The Lord will fight for the African American people, you need only to be still.

The Lord will fight for the non-believers to know Him, you need only to be still.

The Lord will fight for the widows, you need only to be still.

The Lord will fight for the people you love, you need only to be still.

In a war, there are times where there is fighting and then there are times where you are resting to gain energy for the next battle. I believe for me that this time of “house arrest” was time for me to rest and renew.

I struggle to just sit around at home when my heart is longing to be back in Thailand working at the orphanage that I love. However, the more and more antsy I get, the more the Lord reminds me that he is taking care of and fighting for, all the things I wish I could be.

Even when I am able to fight for them, He is alongside me, and when I have to rest and take a breath, He is still fighting. He never runs out of fight for His people, including us.

So whatever life looks like for you right now, remember that you are never helpless because the Lord is always working even when we can’t.
